Charge Warning Indicator Always On Or Off

  1. If charge system indicator is always on, go to next step. If charge system indicator is always off, remove indicator bulb. Test continuity of bulb. Replace bulb if necessary. If bulb is okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C266. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between C266 pin No. 5 and gr ound. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open Blue wire between fuse panel and instrument cluster.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 2-pin generator harness connector. Using a jumper wire, ground Yellow/Black wire at generator harness connector. Turn ignition on. If charge warning indicator glows, repair charging system. If charge warning indicator does not glow, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C266. Remove Black diode strip from diode junction box located behind fuse panel. Measure resistance of Yellow/Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector C266 pin No. 4 and diode junction box. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between Yellow/Blue wire and ground. Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistance measurements are as specified, go to next step. If resistance measurements are not as specified, repair Yellow/Blue wire.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect 2-pin generator harness connector. Remove Black diode strip from diode junction box located behind fuse panel. Measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between generator harness connector and diode junction box. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between Yellow/Black wire and ground. Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistance measurements are as specified, go to next step. If resistance measurements are not as specified, repair Yellow/Black wire.
  6. Using a DVOM, touch ohmmeter positive lead to diode strip pin No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire on mating connector) and negative lead to pin No. 5 (Yellow/Black wire on mating connector). If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. If continuity does not exist, replace diode strip.
