Test R - Improper High Beam Indicator Operation

  1. Turn headlights on. Operate high beams. If high beams operate properly, go to next step. If high beams do not operate properly, see EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove high beam indicator light bulb. Check continuity between terminals of bulb. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace high beam indicator light bulb.
  3. Disconnect instrument cluster electrical connector C3. See Figure . Disconnect multi-function switch connector C1, or Daytime Running Lights (DRL) control connector. See Fig 1 .
  4. Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C3, terminal No. 10 (Red/White wire) and multi-function switch connector C1, terminal No. 1 (Red/White wire) or DRL control connector No. 3 (Red/White wire). See Fig 1 . Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument printed circuit and gauge contact clips. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair Red/White wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
