Pinpoint Test U - Temperature Gauge Incorrect

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove ELECTRON fuse from interior fuse panel. Wait 2 minutes, and reinstall fuse. Locate outside air temperature sensor on lower center radiator support. Disconnect outside air temperature sensor. Connect Instrument Gauge System Tester (Rotunda 014-R1063) leads between sensor connector Yellow/Green wire terminal and ground. Turn ignition on. Adjust tester to the following resistances ensuring that the given temperature readings result:
    • At 20 k/ohms, 97°F (36°C).
    • At 40 k/ohms, 68°F (20°C).
    • At 60 k/ohms, 53°F (12°C).
    • At 80 k/ohms, 43°F (6°C).
    • At 100 k/ohms, 35°F (2°C).

If readings are as specified, go to step 3). If readings are not as specified, go to next step.

  2. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Disconnect instrument cluster connector C2. Measure resistance between connector C2, pin No. 1 and outside air temperature sensor connector Yellow/Green wire terminal. Measure resistance between connector C2, pin No. 1 and ground. If resistance between instrument cluster connector and sensor connector is less than 5 ohms, and greater than 10,000 ohms between instrument cluster connector and ground, replace instrument cluster. If resistances are not as specified, repair Yellow/Green wire circuit.
  3. Leave ignition off and sensor disconnected. Measure resistance between outside air temperature sensor connector Black wire terminal and ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace outside air temperature sensor. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair Black wire.
