Pinpoint Test F - Temperature Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Check Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR under COMPONENT TESTING  in this article. Repair if necessary. If ECT sensor is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECT wiring harness connector. Remove instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Disconnect instrument cluster connector C3. Measure resistance between C3 connector pin No. 2 (Blue/White wire) and ECT sensor wiring harness connector Blue/White wire terminal. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and C3 connector pin No. 2. Resistance should be more than 10,000 ohms. If resistances are as specified, replace instrument cluster. If resistances are not as specified, repair Blue/White wire circuit.
