Pinpoint Test D - Fuel Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Turn ignition off. Unplug connector at fuel pump assembly wiring harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal at connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair Black wire circuit.
  2. Check fuel tank sending unit. See FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT under COMPONENT TESTING  in this article. Repair if necessary. If fuel tank sending unit is okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump assembly wiring harness connector. Remove instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C3. Measure resistance between C3 connector pin No. 1 (Blue/Red wire) and fuel pump assembly wiring harness connector Blue/Red wire terminal. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and C3 connector pin No. 1. Resistance should be 10,000 ohms or more. If resistances are as specified, replace instrument cluster. If resistances are not as specified, repair Blue/Red wire circuit.
