Description & Operation: Gauges: Tachometer

The electronic tachometer display is integrated into the Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC). The tachometer display consists of 46 bars. It indicates engine RPM from 0 to 8000 RPM, according to the number of bars illuminated. From 0 to 1000 RPM, each bar represents 100 RPM. From 1000 to 8000 RPM, each bar represents 200 RPM. See Figure . The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor, which is built into the distributor, monitors engine speed (RPM) and sends a sine wave signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM transforms the CMP signal into a digital signal, which is sent to the tachometer display.
