Water Temperature Indicator Sender Unit

NOTE: The coolant temperature sensor is NOT the same as the engine coolant temperature sensor used as an input to the Powertrain Control Module.
  1. Let engine cool.
  2. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor connector. See Figure .
  3. Measure the resistance between the terminal of the coolant temperature sensor and ground.
  4. Start the engine.
  5. Verify the resistances shown in the table as the engine warms up. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE TABLE

    167 (75) 179-219
    212 (100) 60-72
  6. If the resistance is not as specified, replace the water temperature indicator sender unit. If the resistance is OK, return to the Pinpoint Tests.
