Low Oil Level Indicator

The low oil level indicator lights while the ignition switch is in the START position to test the bulb. During this time, the low oil level module uses an input from the oil level switch to determine if the oil is low (switch grounded) or not low (switch not grounded). If the oil level is adequate, the indicator turns off when the ignition switch is released to the RUN position. If the oil level is low, approximately 1.4 liters (1.5 quarts) or less, the module grounds the Black/Yellow wire to turn on the lamp. The lamp remains on until the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position. After the ignition switch is turned off, five minutes pass before the module takes a new reading. This delay allows time for oil drainback to prevent false readings. If the engine is restarted during this 5 minute period, the last reading is indicated.

The oil level timer module is located behind the glove compartment box on the instrument panel reinforcement bar. The oil level timer module provides a delay to the low oil level warning lamp to prevent the lamp from illuminating as a result of excessive movement in the oil pan. When the ignition is turned to the START position, the oil level timer module proves out the low oil warning lamp, which briefly illuminates.
