Instrument Panels - Electronic: Operation: Gauges: Odometer

The odometer displays accumulated mileage in miles or kilometers from 000000 to 925,691 in miles and from 000000 to 999,999 in kilometers. When 925,691 miles is reached, the odometer ceases accumulation of miles. In metric mode, the odometer will roll over and continue until 490,362 is reached. At this point, the odometer ceases accumulation of miles. Mileage is stored in a non-volatile memory that retains accumulated mileage if the battery is disconnected.

Trip distance is the distance travelled in tenths of kilometers or miles since the trip distance was last reset. Either of the two trip odometers, TRIP 1 and TRIP 2, can be displayed by pressing the OD/TRIP button. Trip distance is displayed by six digits (with a decimal) and rolls over to 00000.0 after reaching 99999.9 kilometers or miles. The trip odometers can be reset by pressing the TRIP/RST button.

Several areas of concern that may affect speedometer and odometer readings are:

Improper tire rolling radius, inflation pressure, temperature, and size may contribute to inaccurate system readings. Perform system accuracy testing after the tires are set to the correct pressure and after the tires are warmed for a short period. Driving at a constant speed within the posted speed limit on smooth, dry pavement will obtain the best results. The final drive ratio of the transaxle must be known to select or to check if the proper VSS drive and driven gears are present. The vehicle speed sensor drive gear is located inside the transaxle and is not easily accessed for change. The driven gear rotates the VSS.
