Fuel Level Gauge
On electronic instrument clusters, the bar-type fuel gauge uses circuitry which senses a linear resistance from the fuel tank sending unit. As this resistance increases and decreases, the reading on the display will do the same. An integrated fuel anti-slosh/low fuel warning module prevents the gauge from rapidly changing with the "sloshing" that occurs within the fuel tank under normal driving conditions.
As the amount of fuel in the fuel tank decreases, resistance of the fuel gauge sender decreases. Resistance is approximately 158 ohms with a full tank, and 18 ohms with an empty tank. The eleven segment bar graph fuel level gauge responds to the change in resistance by increasing or decreasing the number of segments that light up.
