Electronic Instrument Cluster
The electronic instrument cluster contains a digital speedometer and odometer, and a graduated tachometer. The right side of the instrument cluster contains graduated fuel level and engine coolant temperature gauges. The fuel computer display is located on the left side of the cluster, and the warning/indicator lamps and the PRNDL indicator are located along the bottom of the cluster. See Fig 1 .
The electronic instrument cluster lighting operates only when the ignition is in the ON position. When the ignition is turned to the ON position, the displays of all gauges and of the fuel computer will prove out by momentarily lighting all of the display segments. The following warning/indicator lamps also will prove out:
- Charging system
- Safety belt
- Brake system
- Oil pressure
- Low oil
- Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
- Overdrive off
After the prove out, the electronic instrument cluster returns to normal operation. The diode junction box, located behind the instrument cluster, protects the instrument cluster circuitry by allowing current to flow in only one direction.
