Instrument Panel: Removal

NOTE: Mark the electrical connectors as they are disconnected, to ease installation.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the four plastic storage bin screws and the storage bin.
  3. Remove the left hand and right hand inner kick panels. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  4. Remove the knee reinforcement plates. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  5. Remove the right hand inner duct screw. See Fig 1 .
  6. Remove the left hand instrument panel screw. See Fig 2 .

  7. Remove the right hand instrument panel screw.
  8. Remove the glove compartment box. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  9. Remove the steering column. See STEERING COLUMN - EXCEPT STRIPPED CHASSIS .
  10. Remove the instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  .
  11. Disconnect the warning chime electrical connector. See Fig 3 .
  12. Remove the two warning chime bracket screws and the warning chime.
  13. If equipped, remove the power mirror switch from the instrument panel in order to access its electrical connector. See Fig 4 .

  14. Disconnect the power mirror switch electrical connector, if equipped.
  15. Remove the control console bezel screw. See Fig 5 .

  16. Remove the control console bezel with the coin holder/tray attached.
  17. Remove the four ashtray housing screws. See Fig 6 .

  18. Disconnect the cigar lighter/illumination lamp electrical connector.
  19. Remove the ashtray assembly.
  20. Remove the climate control panel. See A/C-HEATER SYSTEM - MANUAL article for removal and installation procedures.
  21. Remove the radio and tape chassis.
  22. Remove the four console bin screws from the radio and tape chassis bracket and remove the console bin.
  23. Remove the right hand and left hand A-pillar trim. See A-PILLAR TRIM  .
  24. Remove the defroster grille.
  25. Remove the photo transistor, if equipped.
  26. Remove the two autolamp module screws, if equipped. See Fig 7 .

    27. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. See Module Servicing Procedures in ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION.
  27. Disconnect the two autolamp module electrical connectors and remove the autolamp module, if equipped.
  28. Remove the instrument panel center nut. See Fig 8 .

  29. Remove the two instrument panel upper bolts.
  30. Remove the instrument panel.
  31. Remove the right hand and left hand demister nozzles.
  32. Remove the right hand and left hand registers.
