Instrument Panel Reinforcement Bar: Removal

  1. Remove the instrument panel. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  2. Remove the left hand register duct screw and the left hand register duct.
  3. Remove the two center register duct screws and the center register duct.
  4. Remove the right hand register duct screw and the right hand register duct.
  5. Remove the two floor duct screws and the floor duct.
    6. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. See Module Servicing Procedures in ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION.
  6. Remove the oil level timer module from its bracket.
  7. Separate the electrical harness from the instrument panel reinforcement bar.
  8. Separate the antenna cable and the diversity antenna wire, if equipped, from the instrument panel reinforcement bar.
  9. Remove the two U-bracket ground bolts and the ground wires.
    10. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. See Module Servicing Procedures in ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION.
  10. Loosen the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) electrical connector bolt and disconnect the PCM electrical connector.
  11. Loosen the Transaxle Control Module (TCM) electrical connector bolt and disconnect the TCM electrical connector.
  12. Remove the two PCM/TCM bracket bolts and remove the PCM and the TCM.
  13. Remove the interior fuse panel screw.
  14. Remove the two parking brake release lever screws.
  15. Remove the shift-lock relay/flasher module bracket screw.
  16. Remove the heater unit housing-to-instrument panel reinforcement bar bolt.
  17. Separate the harness from the U-bracket.
  18. Remove the ABS control module bracket screw.
  19. Remove the three U-bracket-to-chassis nuts.
  20. Remove the four U-bracket bolts and remove the U-bracket.
  21. Remove the two left hand and the two right hand console bracket bolts and the console brackets.
  22. Remove the two right hand reinforcement bar nuts.
  23. Remove the two left hand reinforcement bar bolts and the two nuts.
  24. Remove the four reinforcement bar upper bolts.
  25. Remove the instrument panel reinforcement bar.
