Piston Pin Replacement
- With piston removed and cleaned, mark piston-to-rod to ensure proper reassembly. Use Piston Pin Remover/Installer Set (D81L-6135-A for 1.3L; D90P-6135-A for 1.6L), to remove piston pins. Place piston and rod assembly in remover set.
- On 1.3L engine, assemble anvil, tube guide, and threaded plug onto base and press plates of an arbor press. Apply pressure and press piston pin from piston assembly. On 1.6L engine, remove piston pin retaining clips and place piston in piston pin remover/installer set. Drive piston pin out with hammer. Keep all removed components together for reassembly. Remove piston and rod from remover/installer set. Remove piston rings and inspect.
- Using a micrometer, measure piston pin O.D. in four places 90 degrees apart. Measure I.D. of piston pin bore and rod pin bore in four places 90 degrees apart (1.3L only). Replace components if not within specifications. See PISTONS PINS & RINGS table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
- If measurements of rod, piston and pin are within specification, reassemble using piston pin assembly set. Ensure piston-to-rod position is proper, with connecting rod oil groove on side of piston marked "F" or by a notch. Lubricate pin with engine oil before reassembly. With piston assembly reassembled, rod should fall by its own weight with piston held horizontally. Repeat procedure for remaining pistons.
NOTE:
Installation pressure for piston pins should be 1100-3300 lbs. (500-1500 kg).
