Wheel Bearings
- Raise vehicle until tire clears floor. Remove wheel cover or ornament and lug nut covers. If vehicle has styled steel or aluminum wheels, remove wheel and tire assembly. Remove grease cap from hub.
- Remove cotter pin and nut retainer. Back off adjusting nut one turn. Tighten nut to 17-25 ft. lbs. (23-34 N.m), while rotating hub and drum assembly.
- Loosen adjusting nut 1/2 turn and retighten nut to 24-28 INCH lb. (2.7-3.2 N.m) using an INCH-pound torque wrench. Position adjusting nut retainer over adjusting nut. Ensure slots in nut retainer flange are in line with cotter pin hole in spindle.
- Install NEW cotter pin and bend ends around retainer flange. Check hub rotation. If hub rotates freely, install grease cap. If not, check bearings for damage and replace as necessary.
- Install wheel and tire assembly, wheel cover, ornament and nut covers as required. Lower vehicle and test drive.
