SYMPTOM CHART - WARNING CHIMES

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • All the chimes are inoperative
  • Instrument Cluster (IC)
  • VERIFY the IC  gauges and indicators are functioning correctly.

  • If the IC  gauges and indicators do not function correctly, REFER to GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
  • If the IC  gauges and indicators function correctly, INSTALL a new IC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The chime sounds when the driver door is ajar (no key in ignition and headlamps off)
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
  • Smart Junction Box (SJB)
  • The key-in-ignition warning chime is inoperative
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
  • SJB 
  • IC 
  • The headlamps on warning chime is inoperative
  • Door ajar indication
  • SJB 
  • IC 
  • The turn signal on warning chime is inoperative
  • IC  configuration
  • Odometer operation
  • IC 
  • The door ajar warning chime is inoperative

  • CHECK the door ajar message center warning indicator operation.

  • If the door ajar message center warning indicator does not operate correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST AM . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • If the door ajar message center warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The safety belt warning chime does not operate correctly
  • Safety belt warning indication concern
  • IC 
  • The Belt-Minder® feature does not operate correctly
  • Belt-Minder® deactivated
  • Safety belt warning indication concern
  • Speedometer concern
  • IC 
  • The parking brake warning chime is inoperative
  • Brake warning indication concern

  • The perimeter alarm warning chime is inoperative
  • Perimeter alarm concern

  • VERIFY the key-in-ignition warning chime functions correctly.

  • If the key-in-ignition warning chime does not function correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST AV .
  • If the key-in-ignition warning chimes functions correctly, REFER to ANTI-THEFT - PERIMETER to diagnose the perimeter alarm.
  • The air bag secondary warning chime is inoperative/has activated
  • IC 
  • RETRIEVE the recorded IC  DTCs from the self-test.

  • If the IC  DTC B1868 is not present, the system is operating correctly. The air bag secondary warning chime sounds only when a fault in the air bag warning indicator is present and DTC B1868 is recorded.
  • If the IC  DTC B1868 is present, INSTALL a new IC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The message center warning chime is inoperative
  • IC 
  • DISCONNECT the brake fluid level switch and VERIFY that the message center warning chime sounds when the message center displays CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM.

  • If the message center warning chime sounds when the CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM message appears, the system is operating correctly at this time. The message center warning chime only sounds when the message center displays a new warning message.
  • If the message center warning chime does not sound when the CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM message appears, INSTALL a new IC  . REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
