Transmission Case: Disassembly

  1. Using the Slide Hammer with the Bearing Cup Remover, remove the countershaft bearing cup and shim. Discard the shim.
    • Inspect the countershaft bearing cup for wear or damage. Install a new cup as necessary.
    • Install a new cup if a new countershaft front bearing was installed.

  2. NOTE: Oil pump removal is only necessary if a large amount of particles were in the transmission during disassembly.

  3. Remove the oil pump snap ring.
  4. Remove the oil pump assembly.
    • Using a pair of Vise Grips®, pull upward on the center shaft.
    • Thoroughly clean the oil pump housing. Inspect the oil pump for wear or damage. Install a new oil pump assembly as necessary.

  5. Using a brass drift, dent the input shaft oil baffle for puller tool clearance.

  6. Using the Front Wheel Hub Remover/Installer with the Input Shaft Bearing Cup Remover, remove the input shaft bearing cup.
    • Inspect the input shaft bearing cup for wear or damage. Install a new cup as necessary.
    • Install a new cup if the input shaft bearing was installed new.

  7. Remove the input shaft oil dam bearing ring.

  8. Remove the input shaft shim. Discard the shim.

  9. Remove the oil trough.

  10. Remove the guide tube.

  11. Remove the input shaft oil seal.

  12. Remove the Power Take-Off (PTO) cover.

  13. NOTE: Inspect the bearing for wear or damage before removing.

  14. Using the Universal Puller Set, remove and discard the shift rail bearing.
