WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the danger zone. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
2 Remove rear and center lower engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105S
3 Unclip electrical connector for left lambda sensor downstream of catalytic converter (G3/5x1) from holder (1).    
4 Release and disconnect electrical connector for left lambda sensor downstream of the catalytic converter (G3/5x1).    
5 Expose electric line (2).    
6 Remove lambda sensor (G3/5). SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit Fig 3
7 Cover sensor tip of the lambda sensor (G3/5) with a protective cover. If use of the lambda sensor (G3/5) is continued.

8 Seal threaded hole for the lambda sensor (G3/5) at the catalytic converter. IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
Lambda sensor screw plug threaded hole M18x1, 5 mm
 
INSTALLING Install     
9 Remove protective cover or cover cap from the sensor tip of the lambda sensor (G3/5).    
10 Coat thread of lambda sensor (G3/5) with heat-resistant lubricating paste. If use of the lambda sensor (G3/5) is continued.
Paste, hot lubrication 1 kg, DBL 6879.20

11 Expose threaded hole for the lambda sensor (G3/5) at the catalytic converter.    
12 Screw in lambda sensor (G3/5).    
  Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths   AH00.00-P-0015-01CW
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Oxygen sensor to catalytic converter *BA14.00-P-1002-01A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit Fig 3
13 Route electric line (2) and secure.    
14 Connect electrical connector for left lambda sensor downstream of catalytic converter (G3/5x1) and lock.    
15 Clip electrical connector for left lambda sensor downstream of catalytic converter (G3/5x1) into bracket (1).    
INSPECT Check     
16 Read out and delete fault memory using diagnostic system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
17 Perform an engine test run; check engine for proper operation and check exhaust system for leak tightness.    
18 Install rear and bottom center engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105S
