Fill And Bleed Low-Temperature Circuit - AR09.41-P-6834-01SVZ

Engine 279 in model 223 

WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

NOTES Do not fill low-temperature circuit without activating fill mode.

Proper distribution of the coolant is otherwise not ensured.

IMPORTANT Only fill and bleed low-temperature circuit when engine is cold.

IMPORTANT Drainage tank of SPECIAL TOOL low-temperature circuit adaptation must be empty prior to starting work.

  1. Position coolant reservoir (4.1) of SPECIAL TOOL vacuum-type cooling system filler at same height as low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1).
  2. SPECIAL TOOL Attach tester cap (2) to low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1).
  3. SPECIAL TOOL Connect pressure pump to tester cap (2).
  4. Apply test pressure to low-temperature circuit for 2 min.

    IMPORTANT Do not exceed the test pressure.

    If pressure loss is displayed:

    Perform visual check of coolant-conducting component parts.

  5. SPECIAL TOOL Remove pressure pump.
  6. Connect control unit (3) to SPECIAL TOOL tester cap (2).
  7. Connect Venturi nozzle (9) to control unit (3).
  8. Close drain valve (8) and feed valve (7).
  9. Connect feed hose (4) for coolant to coolant reservoir (4.1). FLUID SPECIFICATION

    IMPORTANT Always fill up coolant reservoir (4.1) completely to prevent intake of air into coolant reservoir (4.1) and to verify filling capacity of low-temperature circuit in vehicle.

  10. Insert drain hose (5) into an empty tank (5.1).
  11. Connect compressed-air hose (6) to Venturi nozzle (9) and apply pressure.

    IMPORTANT The overpressure in the compressed-air supply system must be at least 8 bar so that sufficient vacuum can be generated by the venturi nozzle (9).

  12. Open the drain valve (8).

    IMPORTANT A vacuum is generated in low-temperature circuit.

  13. Open feed valve (7) until feed hose (4) has filled with coolant, then close feed valve (7) again.
  14. Close drain valve (8) if display of the control unit (3) is in the green area.
  15. Disconnect compressed-air hose (6) from Venturi nozzle (9) and observe whether vacuum remains stable for 30 s.

    If this is not the case,

    Check hoses and connections for damage, repair if necessary and again create a vacuum.

  16. Move switch (11) of SPECIAL TOOL electric vacuum pump (18) to 0 position.
  17. Connect positive and negative clamps of SPECIAL TOOL electric vacuum pump (18) to a suitable 12 V voltage source.

    NOTES Observe polarity of positive and negative clamps of SPECIAL TOOL electric vacuum pump (18).

    Otherwise, SPECIAL TOOL electric vacuum pump (18) will be damaged.

  18. Attach bracket (12) to SPECIAL TOOL NTKL adaptation (13).
  19. Connect hose (14) to the SPECIAL TOOL NTKL adaptation (13).
  20. Close off shutoff valves (15, 16, 17).
  21. Attach hose (20) to the SPECIAL TOOL NTKL adaptation (13).
  22. Decouple venturi nozzle (9) and replace by a hose (20).
  23. SPECIAL TOOL Switch in electrical vacuum pump (18) and open stopcock (15).
  24. Open the drain valve (8).

    IMPORTANT The feed valve (7) must remain closed.

    IMPORTANT Evacuate low-temperature circuit for 5 min. Pointer of vacuum display (19) must be above 0.9 bar mark.

  25. Close drain valve (8).
  26. SPECIAL TOOL Switch off electrical vacuum pump (18).
  27. Disconnect hose (14) and reduce vacuum in SPECIAL TOOL low-temperature circuit adaptation (13) until vacuum display (19) shows 0.0 bar.
  28. Check low-temperature circuit for leaks for 30 s (visual check).
  29. Open feed valve (7).

    IMPORTANT Low-temperature circuit is filled.

    IMPORTANT Low-temperature circuit is filled when control unit (3) shows 0.0 bar.

  30. Open drain valve (8) if coolant is no longer suctioned.
  31. Remove control unit (3) along with all connections and SPECIAL TOOL tester cap (2).
  32. Correct coolant level in low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1).
  33. Attach cap (1.1) to low-temperature circuit expansion reservoir (1).
