Remove/Install Wiper Arm - AR82.30-P-6100ME

DANGER Risk of fire  and explosion caused by ignition of window washing fluid or antifreeze and their vapors. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing window washing fluid or antifreeze or inhaling their vapors. Risk of injury or physical irritations caused by contact of window washing fluid or antifreeze with eyes, mucous membranes or skin. Wear protective clothing and tight-fitting safety glasses. No open flames, fire or ignition sources. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes and skin. When working with window washing fluids or antifreeze, do not eat, drink, or smoke. Do not inhale vapors and ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. Store window washing fluid and antifreeze leakfree in safely closed original containers and out of the reach of children. WARNING Injury hazard from pinching and crushing, in extreme cases extremities can even be cut off when caught in windshield wiper mechanism. When working on the windshield wiper mechanism, always switch off the ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (at least 2 m). AS82.30-Z-0001-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Move windshield wiper system to park position.    
2 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
3 Move engine hood to upright position.    
4 Remove covers (7) over suspension strut tower, expose line guide and remove air intake scoop (2) for interior air. Model 167 with code 874 (MAGIC VISION CONTROL incl. heated windshield washer system) AR83.10-P-1411ME
5 Release and disconnect electrical connector (3) at wiper arm (1) on driver's side or front passenger side. Model 167 with code 874 (MAGIC VISION CONTROL incl. heated windshield washer system)  
6 Disconnect washer fluid hose (4) of wiper arm connection (1a) at wiper arm (1) on driver's side or front passenger side. Model 167 with code 874 (MAGIC VISION CONTROL incl. heated windshield washer system)  
7 Remove cover (5) of wiper arm (1) on driver's side or covers (5) of wiper arm (1) on front passenger side.    
8 Unscrew nut (6) at wiper arm (1) on driver's side or nuts (6) at wiper arm (1) on front passenger side.    
9 Detach and remove wiper arm (1) on driver's side or front passenger side. SPECIAL TOOL Thrust washer M 10x1.5 Fig 3

  Installation of wiper arm (1) on driver's side     
10 Connect diagnostic system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06ME
11 Switch on ignition.    
12 Move wiper motor with vehicle diagnosis system into upper position.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   IMPORTANT The upper position is only intended for installing the wiper arm (1) on the driver's side. AD00.00-P-2000-06ME
13 Attach wiper arm (1) on driver's side onto drive spigot and align parallel to water deflector. HAND-HELD TESTER Distance of driver-side wiper arm in the upper position to the water deflector *BE82.30-P-1005-01J 
14 Fasten nut (6) of wiper arm (1) on driver's side .TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut to wiper arm on front windshield wiper system *BA82.30-P-1001-01R 
15 Move wiper arm (1) on driver's side to parked position using vehicle diagnosis system and move back to upper position.

16 Lift wiper arm (1) on driver's side and lower it again. NOTES Lift wiper arm (1) on driver's side before the measurement and lower it again.
Measurement errors occur otherwise.
 
17 Check distance of wiper arm (1) on driver's side from water deflector. HAND-HELD TESTER Distance of driver-side wiper arm in the upper position to the water deflector If the measurement value is outside the tolerance range.

Replace wiper arm (1) on driver's side and start again at operation step 13.

18 Bring wiper arm (1) on driver's side into parked position using vehicle diagnosis system.

19 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (at least 2 m).    
  Installation of wiper arm (1) on front passenger side     
20 Mount wiper arm (1) on front passenger side onto drive spigot and align according to marking on the windshield.    
21 Fasten nuts (6) of wiper arm (1) on front passenger side securely. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut to wiper arm on front windshield wiper system *BA82.30-P-1001-01R 
  Final activities     
22 Switch on ignition.    
23.1 Perform trial run of wiper arm (1) on driver's side and wiper arm (1) on front passenger side using vehicle diagnosis system. If both wiper arms (1) or only the wiper arm (1) on the driver's side was removed.

23.2 Perform trial run of wiper arm (1) on driver's side and wiper arm (1) on front passenger side without vehicle diagnosis system. If the wiper arm (1) on the front passenger side was removed.  
24 Disconnect vehicle diagnosis system from vehicle. If the wiper arm (1) on the driver's side was removed.

25 Install cover (5) of wiper arm (1) on driver's side or covers (5) of wiper arm (1) on front passenger side.    
26 Connect washer fluid hose (4) of wiper arm connection (1a) at wiper arm (1) on driver's side or front passenger side. Model 167 with code 874 (MAGIC VISION CONTROL incl. heated windshield washer system)  
27 Connect electrical connector (3) to wiper arm (1) on driver's side or front passenger side. Model 167 with code 874 (MAGIC VISION CONTROL incl. heated windshield washer system)  
28 Install air intake scoop (2) for interior air and covers (7) over suspension strut tower. Model 167 with code 874 (MAGIC VISION CONTROL incl. heated windshield washer system) AR83.10-P-1411ME
INSPECT Check     
29 Perform function check on windshield wiper system.   AP82.35-P-8252F 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE
