DANGER Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 25 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A

  Tests before driving into the workshop in a vehicle with an error in the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) or with accident damage     
1 Before driving into workshop open the right rear door and perform a visual check of the seat cushion and floor covering in the area of the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) for fire or smoke development.   AR47.70-P-0017-01A
    IMPORTANT Event log points for acute hazard: A1 Smoke A2 Fire
A3 Heat development
IMPORTANT Smoke is often an early indication of fire. If smoke generation or scorched detachable parts can be detected,

immediately make an emergency call using the respective location and country-specific emergency call number, do not touch the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) and clear the danger zone.
 
2 Before driving into the workshop check whether a pungent odor is detectable in the area of the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3).   AR47.70-P-0017-01A
    IMPORTANT Event log point for acute hazard: A4 Electrolyte leakage (visible/can be smelled).  
  Further tests before driving into the workshop in a vehicle with an error in the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) or with accident damage     
3 If no problems were found in operation steps 1 and 2, the vehicle is to be brought into the workshop.    
4 Connect vehicle diagnosis system and run quick test.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06ME
5 Expose 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3).   AR54.10-P-0022ME 
6 Check housing including threaded connections of 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) for mechanical deformation, cracks and openings as far as possible.   AR47.70-P-0017-02A
    If there is an electrolyte leakage.

Notify MPC/general representative.
 
7 Remove 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3). If the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) has to be replaced due to the former tests or if the 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) has to be removed for further checks.

  Take-back of used 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3)     
8 Assess transportability of 48 V on-board electrical system battery (G1/3) and enter in analysis sheet.    
REFER TO FORMS Analysis sheet for lithium-ion battery 48 V, form   OF54.10-P-3000-15FR 
    Check on-board electrical system battery for 48 volt on-board electrical system, when removed, for transportability AR54.10-P-0048ME 
    Check housing of lithium-ion battery AR47.70-P-0017-02A
    Check lithium-ion battery for acute damage AR47.70-P-0017-01A
