DANGER Risk of fire  due to ignition of R1234yf refrigerant on hot components. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with escaped R1234yf refrigerant and when working on pressurized parts. Risk of explosion  due to formation of ignitable refrigerant/air mixtures Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated rooms. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been evacuated. REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
2 Discharge air conditioning system.   AR83.30-P-1760MFA 
3 Remove engine air intake duct (6) upstream of air filter housing.    
4 Remove front right wheel and tire assembly. Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN)) AR40.10-P-1102MFA
5 Remove front section of fender liner in right front fender. Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN)) AR88.10-P-1301MFA
6 Slacken poly-V-belt and remove from belt pulley on refrigerant compressor (A9) or refrigerant compressor with magnetic clutch (A9/7). Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code B01 (48V technology) AR13.22-P-1202MFC

INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Only install lower engine compartment paneling after leak test.

8 Release electrical connector (1) and disconnect.    
9 Remove bolts (2) of refrigerant lines. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 Bolt, refrigerant line to refrigerant compressor *BA83.55-P-1002-02F 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN)) Bolt, refrigerant line to refrigerant compressor *BA83.55-P-1002-02G 
10 Detach refrigerant lines and seal opened connections using suitable stop plugs.    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Compressor oils (specification 362.1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Replace sealing rings.
Moisten sealing rings with compressor oil.

11 Unscrew bolts (3) on refrigerant compressor (A9) or refrigerant compressor with magnetic coupling (A9/7), and place holder (4) to one side. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Make sure that the bracket (4) and the connected lines are correctly seated.

12 Remove refrigerant compressor (A9) or refrigerant compressor with magnetic clutch (A9/7) downwards.    
13 Remove receiver drier. When replacing the desiccant cartridge. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code 2U8 (Alternative refrigerant) Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 with code 2U8 (Alternative refrigerant) except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN))
IMPORTANT Only replace the desiccant cartridge if one of the following conditions is met:
The vehicle is older than 5 years.
The refrigerant is contaminated (color dark gray to black).
The refrigerant compressor (A9) or refrigerant compressor with magnetic clutch (A9/7) has locked up.
The refrigerant circuit was damaged (e.g. after an accident).

14 Install in the reverse order.    
15 Perform commissioning of refrigerant compressor (A9) or refrigerant compressor with magnetic clutch (A9/7). When replacing the refrigerant compressor (A9) or refrigerant compressor with magnetic clutch (A9/7).

WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
16 Perform engine test run, checking air conditioning system for proper operation and leaks.    
17 Install lower engine compartment lining. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code M016 (Uprated engine) AR61.20-P-1105MFR
