The following special tools are required: assembly device (724 589 00 40 00) (027), assembly device (724 589 02 40 00), adapter (724 589 04 31 00)

Shown on TRANSMISSION 724.0 without CODE M005 (4MATIC) 

1. Attach assembly device (027) to assembly stand (011).
2. Fasten housing support (027G) of assembly device (027) to transmission (27).

   

   The housing support (027G) is the part with the end number 07 from the assembly device (027).

3. Fit lifting eye (1) to boom crane and position transmission (27) on assembly device (027).

   

   Check housing support (027G) is correctly seated on assembly device (027) and tighten clamp bolts.

4. Attach Adapter to transmission (27).
5. Mount transmission (27) on assembly device (027) using boom crane.
6. Fit both hold-down tools (2) on transmission housing.

   

   Set the lever of the hold-down tools (2) to vertical position until it completely locks into place.

   Perform operation steps   5  to   11  to remove the shaft package or the transmission housing. 

7. Move supports on shaft carrier (027W) to basic position, to do so lift up locking pins (3) and slide support to center of shaft carrier (027W).

8. Remove pilot bushings of gearshifts (60S, 80S).
9. Attach shaft carrier (027W) to assembly device (027) and transmission (27).

   

   Fasten shaft carrier (027W) to assembly device (027) using clamp screws (027S) and clamping supports (027K).

10. Rotate assembly device (027).
11. Release hold-down tool (2).
12. Remove transmission housing.
13. If necessary, move shafts and gearshifts apart.

    

    To do so, pull the locking pin (3) upwards and slide the support outwards.
