General
The engine torque is transferred from the combustion engine crankshaft to the two-mass flywheel.
The two-mass flywheel transfers the engine torque to the engaged coupling K1 (internal shaft) or to coupling K2 (hollow shaft) of the dual clutch.
Function requirements
- Engine management ON (circuit 87M)
- Engine in operation
- Transmission control not in limp-home mode
Function
The dual clutch acts as an interface between the combustion engine and the dual-clutch transmission and allows virtually uninterrupted torque transfer during shift operations.
The drive torques from the clutches are transferred to the internal shaft and hollow shaft positively via ring gear profiles. The drive forces are transferred to power output shafts 1 or 2 (depending on the required gear) via the gearwheel connections.

The torque is transferred from the hollow shaft fixed gear (13) to the idler gear (2nd gear) (17) of power output shaft 1 (3). The idler gear (2nd gear) (17) is not engaged; this means that it rotates freely on power output shaft 1 (3).
The idler gear (2nd gear) (17) is engaged at the same time with the reverse gear idler gear (7) of power output shaft 2 (4) and acts as a reversing gear. The direction of rotation reversal for the reverse gear is realized here.
The reverse gear idler gear (7) is locked with the idler gear (3rd gear) (6) and torque transfer via power output shaft 2 (4) does not occur.
The idler gear (3rd gear) (6) transfers the torque to the idler gear (1st gear) (16) of power output shaft 1 (3) via the internal shaft (1) with the internal shaft fixed gears (11, 12).
The output torque is transferred from the power output shaft fixed gear 1 (19) to the spur gear (20) of the bevel gear differential. The bevel gear differential is connected through the front drive shafts to the wheels.
The power output shaft fixed gears 1 and 2 (9, 19) are rigidly connected to the respective output shaft (3, 4). The gearwheels of gears 1 to 7 and the reverse gear are idler gears. They are braked by synchronization devices and positively connected to the respective power output shaft (3, 4).
