Remove/Install Rear Axle Differential - AR35.31-P-0522MFC

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off on its own when jacked up. Risk of injury  caused by rotating parts when working on running engine or drive train. Ensure that jack stands are standing firmly. An authorized person must occupy the driver's seat. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0008-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Raise vehicle using vehicle lift and secure in place. IMPORTANT Installation: Only lower and release the vehicle after the leak test. AR00.60-P-0100-01A

2 Remove propeller shaft (2).   AR41.10-P-0050MFA
3 Remove trim of rear axle carrier. Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) with code U55 (Multi-link axle) except code M016 (Uprated engine)

IMPORTANT Installation: Mount rear axle carrier trim only after leak test.		 AR61.30-P-0050MFA
4 Drain oil from rear axle differential (1). When replacing rear axle differential (1).

5 Release and disconnect electrical connector (3) and unclip electric line from rear axle differential (1).   AR35.40-P-7401MFC 
6 Remove left rear axle shaft (5l).   AR35.30-P-0621MFC 
7 Support and secure rear axle differential (1).    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 24 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0253B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
8 Counterhold nuts and remove screws (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, rear axle differential to rear axle carrier at front (multi-link axle) *BA35.31-P-1001-07A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear axle differential to rear axle carrier at rear (multi-link axle) *BA35.31-P-1002-07A 
9 Pry right rear axle shaft (5r) out of rear axle differential (1) and secure against falling down. NOTES
Do not damage radial shaft sealing ring of right rear axle shaft (5r).
Otherwise leaks may occur.		 AR35.30-P-0621MFC 
10 Lower and remove rear axle differential (1).    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 24 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0253B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
11 Install in the reverse order.    
12 Check and correct oil level in rear axle differential (1).   AR35.31-P-0520-08MFC 
    FLUID SPECIFICATION Rear axle differential filling capacity *BF35.31-P-1001-02F 
    Sealant, Omnifit 100H (50 g) *BR00.45-Z-1061-01A 
    Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Filling screw/drain screw to housing cover at front/side *BA35.31-P-1005-07A 
13 Reset wear data in all-wheel drive control unit (N15/17) using diagnostic system. When replacing rear axle differential (1).  
REFER TO DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
14 Check rear axle differential (1) for leak tightness.    
15 Install trim of rear axle carrier. Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
with code U55 (Multi-link axle) except code M016 (Uprated engine) Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 282, 654 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) with code U55 (Multi-link axle)		 AR61.30-P-0050MFA
16 Release vehicle and lower on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-P-0100-01A
