Remove/Install Balance Shaft Housing - AR03.20-P-1105MFC

Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove front section of fender liner in right front fender.   AR88.10-P-1301MFA
2 Turn engine at center bolt of crankshaft in direction of engine rotation to top dead center (ignition TDC) of cylinder 1. IMPORTANT The TDC marking on the belt pulley must be aligned with the positioning edge on the timing case cover.  
3 Remove oil pan.   AR01.45-P-7500MFC
4 Remove screws (2s) and remove oil deflector (2).    
5 Remove screws (3s) and cover (3).    
6 Remove screws (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) and remove balance shaft housing (1). IMPORTANT Replace screws (1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) and seals.  
INSPECT Check     
7 Check new sealing rings of screws (1a, 1c) for damage. NOTES Sealing rings can be damaged if not properly packaged and may not be further used in this case.
Engine damage can occur otherwise.
If damage is identified.
Install new sealing rings.
 
8 Check whether sealing rings lie correctly in groove at screw shank of screws (1a, 1c). IMPORTANT Sealing rings serve for the stabilization of screw shank of screws (1a, 1c) and should prevent a vibration fracture.  
INSTALLING Install     
9 Install balance shaft housing (1) in assembly position at crankcase. NOTES During installation of balance shaft housing (1), ensure that SPACECOAT coating is not damaged.
Balance shaft housing (1) must otherwise be replaced.
IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.
 
10 Install balance shaft housing (1) at crankcase and slightly tighten new screws (1b, 1d) by hand. IMPORTANT Screws (1b, 1d) must be replaced each time they are released.  
11 Slightly tighten new screws (1a, 1c) by hand. NOTES Ensure that sealing rings do not slide out of groove at screw shank or are damaged during installation.
Engine damage can occur otherwise.
IMPORTANT Screws (1a, 1c) must be replaced each time they are released.
 
12 Move balance shafts to basic position.   AR03.20-P-1105-02MFC 
    Torsional backlash *BE03.20-P-1001-05B 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, Lanchester balance housing to crankcase *BA03.20-P-1001-03B 
    SPECIAL TOOL Dial indicator holder Fig 2
    SPECIAL TOOL Dial gauge Fig 1
13 Install cover (3) at balance shaft housing (1).    
14 Install oil deflector (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, oil baffle to crankcase *BA18.10-P-1005-01S 
15 Install oil pan.   AR01.45-P-7500MFC
16 Install front section of fender liner in right front fender.   AR88.10-P-1301MFA
INSPECT Check     
17 Check engine oil level and correct if necessary.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   NOTES Vehicle must be horizontal and standing on its wheels.
Measurement errors occur otherwise.
NOTES Never pour in engine oil to above the maximum value.
Engine damage will occur otherwise.

WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the hazard area. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
18 Perform engine test run; in this connection, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
