Straightening work
Vehicle frames should be straightened cold if possible. The vehicle frame materials are neither brittle when cold or hot and are sufficiently insensitive to brittle fracture.
The parts to be straightened can also be heated up in exceptional cases. The notes on "heat treatment" should be observed in the process.
Heat treatment
We recommend straightening vehicle frames with hydraulic tools or vehicle frame straightening system cold. Stresses which occur during cold straightening can be eliminated by heating up.
Shrinkage is achieved by heating up the material and the material becomes stress-free.
The following should be observed when heat treating:
- Clamp vehicle frame.
- Heat up vehicle frame parts slowly using a soft flame.
- Warm up vehicle frame parts to a maximum of 650°C (use a measuring colored pen).
- The temperature must not be below 600°C otherwise there is the danger of crack formation.
- Warm up vehicle frame in a wedge-shaped manner; the wedge tip must point in the required bending direction.
- Allow points which have been heated up to cool down slowly; never cool off with water or compressed air.
- Unclamp the vehicle frame after it has cooled down.
Heat up the substructure frame in a wedge-shaped manner as shown in the picture. The wedge tip points in the desired direction of bending.
Heat up the web in a wedge-shaped manner. The wedge tip points in the desired direction of bending.
