Engine 139 in Model 118, 177, 247

WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the danger zone. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

Notice  Notes on avoiding damage through contamination and foreign objects   AH00.00-P-5000-01A
REMOVING Remove
1 Remove strut mounting stay, front suspension brace. Engine 139 in model 118, 177
with code 950 (AMG sport package)
AR62.30-P-2500MFA
2 Remove engine cover.
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP01.10-P-2405-01K
3 Remove lower engine compartment lining. Engine 139 in model 118, 177, 247.7 AR61.20-P-1105MFR
INSPECT Check
4 Check outside of engine for oil loss.
Notes on evaluating leakages In case of oil loss:

determine cause and correct.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
AH00.00-P-0011-01KOA
5 Perform engine oil and oil filter change. If ≥ 1000 km has been driven since last engine oil change.
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   NOTES
Before the engine oil consumption measuring drive, the engine oil needs to be changed.
Otherwise, false measurements may occur, e.g as a result of fuel in the engine oil.
AP18.00-P-0101MFC
6 Start engine and warm up to operating temperature. IMPORTANT Operating temperature is achieved at approx. 80°C engine oil temperature.
7 Switch off engine.
8 Drain engine oil.
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   IMPORTANT Collect engine oil with a suitable, clean container. AP18.00-P-0101MFC
9 Place drained engine oil with container on a scale and weigh. IMPORTANT Note weight of engine oil and kilometer reading of vehicle.
10 Add drained engine oil.
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-0101MFC
INSTALLING Install
11 Install engine cover.
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP01.10-P-2405-01K
12 Install strut tower brace. Engine 139 in model 118, 177
with code 950 (AMG sport package)
AR62.30-P-2500MFA
13 Install lower engine compartment lining. Engine 139 in model 118, 177, 247.7 AR61.20-P-1105MFR
INSPECT Check
14 Perform engine oil consumption measuring drive. IMPORTANT Measurement distance of measuring drive by workshop personnel is 250 km under consideration of customer's vehicle operating conditions.
Measurement distance of measuring drive by customer is 1, 000 km.

15 Drain engine oil.
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   NOTES
Perform new measurement at the location of the first oil measurement with the same container.
Measurement errors occur otherwise.
IMPORTANT Collect engine oil with a suitable, clean container.
AP18.00-P-0101MFC
16 Place drained engine oil with container on a scale and weigh. IMPORTANT Note weight of engine oil and kilometer reading of vehicle.
17 Calculate weight difference by subtracting the weight of the engine oil after the measuring drive from the weight of the engine oil before the measuring drive and note down.
18 Calculate measurement distance by subtracting the kilometer reading before the measuring drive from the kilometer reading after the measuring drive and note down.
19 Determine oil consumption. IMPORTANT Calculation of oil consumption over 1000 km:
(difference in weight in kg x 1000) divided by (measurement distance in km x oil density in kg/l)
Example:
(1.2 kg x 1000) divided by
(1234 km x 0.85 kg/l)
= 1.14 l oil consumption
IMPORTANT The oil consumption may be max. 0.8 l after the oil consumption measuring drive.
If oil consumption > 0.8 l,

determine cause and correct.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
If oil consumption ≤ 0.8 l,

Correct engine oil level after filling in the drained engine oil.

20 Add drained engine oil.
