Remove/Install Radiator - AR20.20-P-3865MFD

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove air filter housing. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) AR09.10-P-1150MFC
    Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN))

2 Remove fan unit.   AR20.40-P-5050MFD 
3.1 Remove charge air hoses from charge air cooler (18) at exhaust gas turbocharger and from charge air cooler (18) at air intake manifold. Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN)) except code ME10 (Hybrid vehicle (plug-in, PHEV)) AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
3.2 Remove charge air hose from charge air cooler (18) at exhaust gas turbocharger, remove charge air hose from charge air cooler (18) at air intake manifold and place to one side. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
4 Remove charge air hose from charge air cooler (18) at air intake manifold and Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) AR09.41-P-1311-01AL
5 Seal openings using protective cover. SPECIAL TOOL Set of protective covers Fig 2
6 Remove front bumper.   AR88.20-P-2000MFA
7 Remove left headlamp.   AR82.10-P-4733MFA
8 Remove air duct segment (1).    
9 Remove air duct segment (2).    
10 Remove intake air duct (3). IMPORTANT The number of intake air ducts (3) depends on the vehicle equipment.  
11 Release and disconnect electrical connector (4) on left and right. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code U60 (Pedestrian protection - Active hood) except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 with code U60 (Pedestrian protection - Active hood)

12 Remove impact absorber (5).    
13 Remove bolts (6) and lower bracket (7).    
14 Unscrew bolts (8, 9, 10) on left and right and remove upper bracket (11) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Ensure that washer for bolt (8) on crossmember (17) is seated correctly.  
15 Unclip electrical wiring harness from crossmember (17). If installed.
NOTES
Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
Otherwise, the electric lines will be damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Route electrical wiring harness along original fastening points.
 
16 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (12) at horn on left and right.    
17 Remove bolts (27), remove bracket (28) from crossmember (17) and place to one side. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code M016 (Uprated engine) except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter)  
18 Remove bolts (13) on left and right and remove crossmember (17). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Install new screw/bolts (13).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, impact absorber/absorber to crossmember

19 Open bracket (30) of refrigerant line (29). Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter)  
20.1 Remove condenser from charge air cooler (18) and secure against falling down. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) except code M016 (Uprated engine) Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN)) except code ME10 (Hybrid vehicle (plug-in, PHEV))  
20.2 Remove condenser from low-temperature circuit cooler and secure against falling down. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code M016 (Uprated engine) except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter)  
21 Unclip electrical line (31).    
22.1 Unclip air duct segments (14) on left and right at charge air cooler (18) and remove. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) except code M016 (Uprated engine) Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN)) except code ME10 (Hybrid vehicle (plug-in, PHEV))  
22.2 Unclip air duct segments (14) on left and right at low-temperature circuit cooler and remove. Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code M016 (Uprated engine) except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter)  
23 Remove air duct segment lower section (15).    
24 Remove bolts (25) on left and right and remove brackets (26).    
25 Drain off coolant. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Only fill engine cooling system after installation of bumper. AR20.00-P-1142MFC 
26 Remove coolant lines (21, 22) and coolant hoses (23, 24) from radiator (20) and collect escaping coolant with a suitable container. IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
Coolant collection container IMPORTANT The number of coolant hoses (23, 24) depends on the vehicle equipment.

27 Seal openings with suitable stop plugs and protective covers. SPECIAL TOOL Set of protective covers Fig 3

28.1 Unclip radiator (20) on charge air cooler (18) (arrows). Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) except code M016 (Uprated engine) Engine 282 in model 118, 177, 247 except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter) except code ME08 (Hybrid drive 75-84 kW VARIANT (INCLUDING PLUGIN)) except code ME10 (Hybrid vehicle (plug-in, PHEV))  
28.2 Unclip radiator (20) on low-temperature circuit cooler (arrows A). Engine 260 in model 118, 177, 247 with code M016 (Uprated engine) except code 2U1 (Radiator shutter)  
29 Swivel radiator (20) in direction of engine and guide out upwards. IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
30 Check radiator (20) for damage. If there are problems:

replace radiator (20).
 
31 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
32 Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.   AR20.00-P-1010MFD
