Removal and Installation

WARNING:
Do not use any fluid other than clean brake fluid meeting manufacturer's specification. Additionally, do not use brake fluid that has been previously drained. Following these instructions will help prevent system contamination, brake component damage and the risk of serious personal injury.

NOTE:
Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.
All vehicles
- With the engine off, press the brake pedal several times to discharge the booster.
- Remove the LH battery. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
- Remove the 4 bolts and position the degas bottle assembly aside.
- To install, tighten bolts to 19 Nm (168 lb-in).
- Disconnect the brake fluid level switch electrical connector.
- If equipped, disconnect the speed control deactivation switch and/or the trailer brake control transducer electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the brake tubes from the master cylinder.
- To install, tighten to 18 Nm (159 lb-in).
Vehicles with vacuum boost
- Remove the brake master cylinder nuts and the brake master cylinder.
- To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
Vehicles with Hydro-Boost®
- To install, tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- Disconnect the power steering line from the power steering line bracket.
- Remove the power steering line bracket/master cylinder nut and position the bracket aside by first sliding it forward and then pivoting it to the side.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
- Remove the remaining brake master cylinder nut and the brake master cylinder.
- To install, tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
All vehicles
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Bleed the brake system. For additional information, refer to BRAKE SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION .
