Output Shaft Seal: Removal

All vehicles
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove and discard the driveshaft bolts. Disconnect the rear driveshaft from the transmission and position it aside. For other driveshaft configurations, refer to
DRIVESHAFT
.
Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles
- Remove the transfer case. For additional information, refer to TRANSFER CASE .
- Using the Input Shaft Oil Seal Remover and the Slide Hammer, remove and discard the output oil seal.
Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) vehicles
- Using the Drive Pinion Flange Holding Fixture and the Mainshaft Locknut (36-mm) Socket, remove the transmission flange.
- Remove and discard the output oil seal.
NOTE:
Index-mark the driveshaft to the flange.
