Pinpoint Test H: The Individual Component Illumination Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 Ford Pickup, 2009 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2009 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2009 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- H1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source
- Place the headlamp switch to the PARKING LAMPS ON position.
- Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
- Measure the voltage between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:
Component Connector-Pin Circuit Four wheel drive switch C284-4 VLN04 (VT/GY) Adjustable pedals switch C2089-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Message center switch C265-1 VLN04 (VT/GY) Headlamp switch C205-5 VLN04 (VT/GY) Power sliding rear window switch C2060-4 VLN04 (VT/GY) Parking aid disable switch C2085-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Traction control C280-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Roof opening panel switch C912-5 VLN04 (VT/GY) Upfitter switches C2300-2 VLN04 (VT/GY) - Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : TURN headlamps off. Go to H2 .
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- H2 CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the inoperative illumination source, harness side and ground as follows:
Component Connector-Pin Circuit Four wheel drive switch C284-1 GD115 (BK/GY) Adjustable pedals switch C2089-4 GD115 (BK/GY) Message center switch C265-4 GD115 (BK/GY) Headlamp switch C205-10 GD115 (BK/GY) Power sliding rear window switch C2060-1 GD115 (BK/GY) Parking aid disable switch C2085-2 GD115 (BK/GY) Traction control C280-2 GD115 (BK/GY) Roof opening panel switch C912-3 GD115 (BK/GY) Upfitter switches C2300-3 GD116 (BK/VT) - Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new component in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
