Safety Chains: Maintenance

Safety chains must be regularly inspected to confirm excessive chain wear, to check for damage to or fracturing of any of the attaching points, and to assure that the tow vehicle attaching points have not been damaged. Additional inspection must be conducted immediately upon binding of the safety chains due to jackknifing or breakaway from the coupler. Immediate replacement is required if cracks or excessive wear is detected.
