Setting-Up-Auxiliary Brake Units

NOTE: Do not set up the auxiliary brake unit until the vehicle is hooked up to the truck hitch or underlift of the tow truck.
  1. Secure the steering wheel of the disabled vehicle so that it cannot turn.
  2. Place the steering wheel clamp on the steering wheel as shown in Fig 2 Make sure its bracket is against the rear side of the steering wheel so the clamp cannot come free of the steering wheel. Tighten the wing nut that holds the bracket. Tighten the thumb screw that holds the collar. Reposition the collar of the barrel if the extension rod does not provide adequate adjustment. Extend pedal clamp to brake pedal, tighten wing nut and T-screw. Install service brake air hose from rear of tow truck to auxiliary brake unit. Check for proper brake operation on both disabled vehicle and tow truck before starting tow onto highway.
