Adjust Parking Brake - Ar42.20-D-0540TS

except code B25 (Electric parking brake)

  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A 
  Preparation     
  Risk of death  caused by limbs being caught or crushed by rotating parts when performing tests on the brake test stand Never leave the vehicle unattended on the rollers except in an emergency. Ensure that no one is under the vehicle or near rotating parts during testing. In case of emergency, use the EMERGENCY OFF switch to shut down test stand. AS42.00-Z-0001-01A 
1 Bed in the parking brake before the    
  adjustment procedure.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 05 21 00 Roller brake test stand   WS42.00-P-0006B

Do not thermally overload the parking brake.
Otherwise, the parking brake may be damaged.
IMPORTANT Bed in parking brake with a brake force of approx. 1000 N for a maximum of 60 s on the brake test stand.
Alternatively, accelerate vehicle to 60 km/h and apply parking brake lever lightly for approx. 8 s.

REMOVING Remove     
2 Raise vehicle.   AR00.60-D-1000-04TS
  Special instructions for lifting and supporting vehicle   AH00.60-N-0100-01TS
3.1 Remove one wheel bolt from each rear wheel. Model 907 except code IT5 (5.0 tons)
For vehicle with steel wheels.
 
3.2 Remove rear wheels. Model 907 except code IT5 (5.0 tons)
For vehicles with light alloy wheels.

  Adjust     
4 Release counternut (33) of adjusting nut (30) on brake compensator lever (31) by a few turns.    
5 Release adjusting nut (30).    
6 Release nuts (34) and slide brake compensator lever (31) up to end stop in direction of travel.    
7 Tighten nuts (34). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/nut, brake compensator lever to frame *BA42.20-N-1002-01TS 
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
8 Adjust basic clearance for parking brake. Model 907 except code IT5 (5.0 tons) AR42.20-D-0540-02TS

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 907 with code IT5 (5.0 tons) Brake adjuster adjustment screw *BA42.20-N-1003-01TS

INSTALLING Install     
9.1 Screw in and tighten wheel bolts. Model 907 except code IT5 (5.0 tons)
Vehicle with steel wheels.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 907 Wheel bolt
*BA40.10-N-1001-01TS 
9.2 Mount rear wheels. Model 907 except code IT5 (5.0 tons)
Vehicle with light alloy wheels.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 907 Wheel bolt *BA40.10-N-1001-01TS 
  Adjust     
10 Operate parking brake lever several times with medium force, then release and operate up to 3rd notch.    
11 Adjust rear brake cables (4). IMPORTANT To do so, screw on adjusting nut (30) on brake compensator lever (31) far enough until the rear wheels can still just be turned by hand in the direction of travel.  
12 Check rear wheels for freedom of movement. IMPORTANT Operate and release parking brake lever 3 times in row. The rear wheels must turn freely and without grinding the brake.
If rear wheels do not move freely,

release adjusting nut (30) and repeat adjustment procedure as of operation step 10.
 
13 Tighten counternut (33).    
INSPECT Check     
14 Check for correct function of parking brake.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE Brake test If corresponding findings are present,

Repeat complete adjustment procedure.
