Energy management, general
Energy management manages stable power supply and consumption of all electrical components.
The following components are involved in energy management:
- Battery sensor (monitoring of on-board electrical system battery charge level)
- On-board electrical system battery (power storage and power supply at engine OFF)
- Alternator (energy generation)
- CDI control unit or ME-SFI control unit (alternator management)
- SAM control unit (energy management master control unit)
- Auxiliary battery relay (K57/2) (with code E36 (Cutoff relay for additional battery))
Major assembly coordinator:
The major assembly coordinator is integrated in the CDI control unit or the ME-SFI control unit and forms the interface between the energy management and the alternator. The CDI control unit or the ME-SFI control unit communicates with the alternator over the drive train LIN.
The major assembly coordinator regulates the alternator's power output to match the energy management system specifications, taking engine load into consideration.
The recording and evaluation of the relevant variables for this are conducted by the following components:
- Alternator
- CDI control unit
- ME-SFI [ME] control unit
- SAM control unit
Energy management contains the following subfunctions, which are described in separate documents:
- ECO start/stop function energy management, function
- Engine OFF energy management, function
- Engine on energy management, function
The subfunction "Energy management for ECO start/stop function" is considered from an energy management viewpoint. Detailed information on the function of the "Engine management ECO start/stop function" is available in the function description "Common rail diesel injection system (CDI) function" (for diesel engine).
