Location
The trunk lid/tailgate lock is located at the center on the firewall of the trunk lid or tailgate.
Structure
Depending on the equipment, the following components are installed in the trunk lid/tailgate lock:
- Trunk lid/tailgate lock safety catch switch (vehicles with power closing function or EASY-PACK liftgate)
- Trunk lid/liftgate lock main catch switch
- Trunk lid/liftgate lock motor
- Two additional mechanical locks on the left and right, each actuated via a Bowden cable (vehicles with trunk lid auxiliary lock, varies depending on model)
Task
The trunk lid/tailgate lock connects the trunk lid or tailgate with the lock striker, keeps this reliably closed or releases this again in the case of an opening request.
The trunk lid/tailgate lock has the following tasks:
- Definition of status of trunk lid or tailgate (open or closed) via the status of the trunk lid/tailgate lock main catch switch
- Locking/unlocking of trunk lid or tailgate via the central locking system via the actuation of the trunk lid/tailgate lock motor
- Definition of detents via the status of the trunk lid/tailgate lock safety catch switch and the trunk lid/tailgate lock main catch switch
- During power closing function (vehicles with power closing function)
- During automatic closing (vehicles with EASY-PACK liftgate or remote trunk closing)
Depending on the vehicle, the central signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM control unit) or the rear signal acquisition and actuation module reads in the status of the respective trunk lid/tailgate lock switch. In addition, the central signal acquisition and actuation module or the rear signal acquisition and actuation module actuates the trunk lid/tailgate lock motor accordingly.
