The following work instructions describe the procedure involved in offline SCN coding. The SCN coding data are requested by fax from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.

Daimler AG reserves the right to raise a flat-rate charge per request for the offline backup process.

Requirements for offline SCN coding:

A vehicle diagnosis system with a printer
A fax machine or an email program

Offline SCN coding is broken down into two steps:

Determine vehicle data for offline SCN coding. Enter vehicle data into fax form for ordering the SCN coding data.
Perform SCN coding. The SCN coding data are created by the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.

Determine vehicle data for offline SCN coding
1. Select the control unit in XENTRY Diagnostics.
2. Select offline SCN coding.
  Control unit adaptations or commissioning → SCN coding → Offline (no networked Star Diagnosis device)
3. Confirm note on SCN coding process.
4. Fill out fax form completely and print out.
  If an email address is entered in the fax form, you will be sent the SCN coding data per email. If a fax number is entered in the fax form, you will be sent the SCN coding data per fax.
5. Send printed out fax form to given fax number of "Star Diagnosis User Help Desk".
Perform SCN coding
For SCN coding data received by email
1. 6 Unpack the Zip files and burn data onto CD or save onto a USB removable storage device.
2. 7 Mark CD or USB removable storage device accordingly.
3. 8 In XENTRY menu item, select step two, "Perform SCN coding".
4. 9 Insert CD or connect USB removable storage device.
  To change control units to write mode, an unlocking code (key) is required for the respective control unit. When using regular procedures this is automatically queried by the central systems. In the offline fallback process, the user is prompted by XENTRY to ask for the activation code by phone from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk. A detailed description of the process is available in Star Diagnosis INFO.
5. 10 Dispose of CD as per directive for theft-relevant parts (DTR 69/00) and document disposal process on repair order.

6. 11 In XENTRY menu item, select step two, "Perform SCN coding".
7. 12 Selection of keyboard input.
8. 13 Enter SCN coding data into vehicle diagnosis system manually.
  Final activities
9. 14 Perform SCN coding.
  If specified by XD,

  switch ignition on and off again.
10. 15 Print out order log and include with repair order.
11. 16.1 For SCN coding data received per email.
  Import the data via CD or USB removable storage device.
12. 16.2 For SCN coding data received per fax.
  Delete data on USB removable storage device and document deletion on repair order.

The order log can be saved in the vehicle diagnosis system through "Print menu" → Print to file". The StarPad program enables the order logs to be viewed and printed out using "Star Utilities" → "Logs".
