WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Switch on ignition.    
2 Adjust heater to maximum heat output.    
3 Remove upper engine cover.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 176 in model 167 AP01.10-P-2405-01M
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 177 in model 167 AP01.10-P-2405-01E
4 Remove lower engine compartment paneling.   AR61.20-P-1105ME
5 Remove the cap (1) on the coolant expansion reservoir (2).    
INSPECT Check     
6 Check coolant level and antifreeze content of the coolant; correct if necessary. FLUID SPECIFICATION Engine 176 in model 167Cooling system *BF20.00-P-1001-06A 
    FLUID SPECIFICATION Engine 177 in model 167Cooling system *BF20.00-P-1001-02LA 
7 Install tester cap (3) on coolant expansion reservoir (2). SPECIAL TOOL Test cap Fig 1
8 Connect pressure pump (4) at tester cap (3). SPECIAL TOOL Pressure pump Fig 2
9 Apply a test pressure to the engine cooling system for 2 minutes. NOTES
Do not exceed the specified test pressure.
Damage will occur otherwise to the engine cooling system.
IMPORTANT There should be no pressure loss within a period of 2 minutes.
Test pressure for pressure-testing the cooling system

10 Visually check the condition of the coolant-conducting component parts and the connections and check them for coolant loss. If pressure loss is present:

Replace damaged assembly part.
 
11 Drain off overpressure via valve at pressure pump (4). SPECIAL TOOL Pressure pump Fig 2
12 Disconnect pressure pump (4) from tester cap (3). SPECIAL TOOL Pressure pump Fig 2
13 Detach tester cap (3) from coolant expansion reservoir (2). SPECIAL TOOL Test cap Fig 1
14 Check coolant level and antifreeze content of the coolant; correct if necessary. FLUID SPECIFICATION Engine 176 in model 167Cooling system *BF20.00-P-1001-06A 
    FLUID SPECIFICATION Engine 177 in model 167Cooling system *BF20.00-P-1001-02LA 
INSTALLING Install     
15 Attach cap (1) to coolant expansion reservoir (2).    
16 Install lower engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105ME
17 Install upper engine cover.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 176 in model 167 AP01.10-P-2405-01M
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 177 in model 167 AP01.10-P-2405-01E
18 Switch off ignition.
