IMPORTANT The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Determine and mark separating point (area A) by means of new rear fender (1).
  2. Mark separating points on rear fender (1) (areas B and C).

    IMPORTANT Mark separating points (areas B and C) along Y-markings.

  3. Carry out contour cut at rear fender (1) (area A).

    NOTES Do not make contour cut too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  4. Cut separating points at rear fender (1) (areas B and C).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  5. Expose spot welds at rear fender (1) (areas D and E).
  6. Cut off spot welds at rear fender (1) (areas D and E).
  7. Expose laser seams at rear fender (1) (areas F).
  8. Cut off laser seams at rear fender (1) (areas F).

    IMPORTANT Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

  9. Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  10. Remove rear fender (1).

  11. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  12. Remove grinding dust and milling chips.
  13. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area G).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.
