The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle in model 167.1. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Install B-pillar (2) with the
side portal frame and portal straightener, fit and fix in place.
Use spacers.
- Drill rivet holes in the B-pillar (2) that have a diameter of 6.7 mm (areas A, B).
- Countersink rivet holes (area B).
- Drill 6.5 mm-diameter holes for plug welding (areas C).
Only drill holes for plug welding through one panel thickness (areas C).
- Remove B-pillar (2) and the portal straightener.
- Deburr rivet holes an B-pillar (2) and on body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Coat with zinc dust paint insides of those riveted joints that will not be bonded.
- Apply sealant to B-pillar foam part (2) in cross-hatched area (area D).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to B-pillar (2) in cross-hatched areas (areas E).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install B-pillar (2) using the
side portal frame and portal straightener and fix in place.
Use spacers.
- Rivet B-pillar (2) with rivets Ø 6.5x12.5 (areas F).
- Rivet B-pillar (2) with countersunk-head blind rivets Ø 6.4x14.0 (area G).
- Rivet B-pillar (2) with countersunk-head blind rivet Ø 6.4x15.5 (area H).
- B-pillar (2)

- B-pillar (2)

- B-pillar (2)

- Install longitudinal member outer shell (3), fit and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes in longitudinal member outer shell (3) with Ø 6.7 mm (area L).
- Remove longitudinal member outer shell (3).
- Deburr rivet holes on longitudinal member outer shell (3) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Coat with zinc dust paint insides of those riveted joints that will not be bonded.
- Apply sealant to the foam part in the cross-hatched area (area M).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas (areas N).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Apply sealant to foam part of longitudinal member outer shell (3) in cross-hatched area (area O).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to longitudinal member outer shell (3) in cross-hatched area (area P).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install and fix in place longitudinal member outer shell (3).
- Rivet longitudinal member outer shell (3) using 6.5x12.5-diameter rivets (areas Q).
- Rivet longitudinal member outer shell (3) using 6.5x14.5-diameter rivets (areas R).
- Longitudinal member outer shell (3)
(areas S).
- Longitudinal member outer shell (3)
(areas T).
Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.
- Surface grind shielding gas welds on the longitudinal member outer shell (3) (areas T).
Surface grind only on fold areas and contact surfaces of the B-pillar paneling (areas T).
- Clean weld joints no longer accessible after installing B-pillar reinforcement and coat with zinc dust paint.
- Install B-pillar paneling (1, fit and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes in B-pillar paneling (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (area U).
- Remove B-pillar paneling (1).
- Deburr rivet holes in B-pillar paneling (1) and on body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Coat with zinc dust paint insides of those riveted joints that will not be bonded.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Install B-pillar paneling (1) and fix in place.
- Rivet B-pillar paneling (1) with rivets Ø 6.4x12 (areas V).
- Rivet B-pillar paneling (1) with rivets Ø 6.5x12.5 (areas W).
- B-pillar paneling (1)
(areas X).
- B-pillar paneling (1)
(areas Y).
Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.
