The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Expose and cut off spot welds at beltline reinforcement (1) (areas A1
).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

Expose and cut off spot welds at beltline reinforcement (1) (area A2 ).

Heat beltline reinforcement (1) in cross-hatched area (area A3 ).
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove beltline reinforcement (1).
- Mark separating point on outer D-pillar (2) and cut (area B).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
b approx. 40 mm
- Expose spot welds on outer D-pillar (2) and cut out (areas C).
- Expose spot welds at outer D-pillar (2) and drill out with Ø 6.5 mm (areas D1 , D2 ).
- Remove outer D-pillar (2).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
Grind mating surface on inside down to bare metal (area E).

Grind mating surface down to bare metal in cross-hatched area (area F).
Observe pre-treatment of bonding surface.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
