REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Move steering wheel (2) all the way upward.    
2 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
3 Disconnect ground line of battery of 12 V on-board electrical system.   AR54.10-P-0003MFA
4 Insert extraction hook (3) into release opening (6) on steering wheel (2) (arrow A). SPECIAL TOOL Extraction hook Fig 2
5 Release safety spring (4) of driver's airbag (1) using extraction hook (3) (arrow B) and lift off steering wheel (2). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : The driver's airbag (1) must audibly engage in the steering wheel (2).  
6 Remove driver's airbag (1) then release and disconnect electrical connector (5). NOTES Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
This will result in damage to the electric lines and can impair their function.
 
    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Make sure that the electrical connector (5) engages properly.  
7 Install in the reverse order.    
8 Check Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) with diagnostic device. When replacing driver's airbag (1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
