General
The more efficient a combustion engine is, the less usable thermal energy is available from the coolant for heating.
In order to still achieve the required level of heating comfort in the passenger compartment (particularly with a cold combustion engine), some models are equipped with a PTC booster heater (1) on a market-dependent basis. This supplies the generated heat directly to the air flowing into the vehicle interior.
The climate control system controls the PTC booster heater (1) depending on the requested heating output.
The PTC heater booster (1) is located in the air conditioner housing in front of the heater core. Depending on the vehicle and equipment installed, a second PTC booster heater is located in the rear passenger compartment.
Function requirements
- Circuit 30t ON
Function
The PTC heater booster (1) consists of a heating register with PTC heater sections and a power regulator A PTC section comprises several ceramic heater elements with a metallic frame The metallic frame is provided with ribbing on the enlarged surface.
Energization of the heating elements of the PTC heater booster (1) causes them to heat up The fresh air drawn in flows directly through the PTC heater booster (1) and is warmed up
