General
Media mode enables the playback of video or audio files. The following media sources are available:
- USB ports (Universal Serial Bus), e.g. in the front center console, integrated into the device for the radio (without head unit).
- Bluetooth® streaming
Only data-capable USB ports are suitable for media mode. Frequently, USB ports that are only used for charging external devices are also provided in the vehicle.
The audio signals are output over the speaker system. The video signals are output via the central display or the front passenger display (depending on the equipment installed). Media mode is operated via the multimedia system's display and control elements. Media mode for the radio is operated directly at the device.
Playing back videos on the central display is only possible at a vehicle speed of less than 6 km/h.
Function requirements
- Circuit 30t on.
- Transport mode not active.
- System activation must have been performed.
- Anti-theft protection is deactivated.
- In electric vehicles: Range maximization is not activated for the interior function area.
- For off-road vehicles with stealth light: Stealth light not switched on.
Function
USB media mode function
For the media mode using USB, audio/video data and control signals are sent through a data-capable USB connector.
The playback of video data is dependent on the equipment installed.
Media mode supports the following USB devices:
- USB storage media with FAT32, exFAT and NTFS file systems
- Audio player with Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)
- Apple iPod®/iPhone®
The playback of smartphone media can also take place via smartphone integration.
Media mode supports, for example, the following file formats:
- Audio formats: MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV, FLAC, ALAC
- Video formats: AVI, MPEG, DivX, MKV, MP4, M4V, WMV
Media mode supports USB data storage media up to 2 TB depending on the file system. Media mode supports video files up to full HD (1920 x 1080). Media mode cannot playback copy-protected audio and video files or files encrypted with DRM (Digital Rights Management).
When playing back audio files, the corresponding visual representation (cover art) is displayed on the central display if this is stored on the terminal.
Bluetooth® audio function
For the media mode using Bluetooth®, the audio data and control signals are transferred via the Bluetooth®/WLAN antennas; for radio, this takes place via the integrated Bluetooth® interface.
Preconditions for Bluetooth® Audio:
- The audio equipment supports A2DP and AVRCP Bluetooth® audio profiles.
- The audio equipment is authorized and connected.
The AAC codec is used for optimum audio quality, provided that the audio equipment supports it.
Notes on supported devices for Bluetooth® audio can be found under:
http://www.mercedes-benz.com/connect
Authorizing and connecting a Bluetooth® audio source occurs analogously to telephony (see telephone basic function).
The display of information for Bluetooth® audio depends on the respective device used. As of AVRCP 1.3, the multimedia system supports display of the track, album and artist on the central display, the front passenger display or the driver's display. In addition, the event log relays for how long the current track has been playing.
