General
The seat ventilation has the task of reducing the temperature of the seat cushion or seat backrest. The seat ventilation creates a more pleasant climate for vehicle occupants at high temperatures. The seat ventilation is carried out by centrifugal/axial fans integrated in the seats.
Function requirements
- Circuit 15 or circuit 15R ON (or vehicle condition "LIVING")
Function
Seat ventilation control
At the rear seats, the seat ventilation is controlled by the rear seat control unit of each seat.
Depending on the equipment installed, one of the following control units controls the seat ventilation for the front seats:
| Installed control units/position of seat heating | Driver seat ventilation | Front passenger seat ventilation |
|---|---|---|
| Without driver's seat control unit Without front passenger seat control unit | Seat climate control, control unit | Seat climate control, control unit |

Manual switching on and off
The seat climate control switch group in the doors of the respective side of the vehicle records the operation signals over the seat ventilation button and transmits these to the control system.
The seat ventilation can also be switched on or off via the voice control system. Depending on the equipment installed, remote control through the tablet PC in the rear armrest is also possible.
The fan speed can set to 3 different levels. The fan motor of the radial/axial fan operates at different outputs (100 %, 65 %, 35 %) depending on the stage engaged (the power states may vary slightly depending on the vehicle model).
Model 118, 167, 177, 243, 247, 293
Model 213, 238, 257, 290
as of model year 2021
Depending on the configuration, the seat ventilation motors are first actuated in the "suction" direction of rotation (seat cooling); after 10 minutes, the direction of rotation is reversed to "blowing" (seat ventilation).
The control system sends the stage setting of the seat ventilation back to the seat climate control switch group. This actuates the LEDs in the seat ventilation button accordingly.
The fan speed settings can be adjusted using the diagnosis tester.
Reduction of noise level in the stationary vehicle
In order to reduce the noise level of the seat ventilation when the vehicle is stationary, the seat ventilation is shifted down to stage 1 when the vehicle speed falls below 8 km/h. As of 12 km/h, the originally selected stage is activated.
The noise level reduction does not become active until 7 minutes after the respective seat ventilation has been switched on for the first time with the engine running.
Actuation by other systems
For actuation by other systems, the function requirement for circuit 15 or 15R ON does not apply. With circuit 30t, the other systems can also activate the seat ventilation.
The seat ventilation can also be actuated by the following systems:
- Convenience feature
- Pre-air conditioning
- Revitalization
Convenience feature:
The seat ventilation switches off if circuit 15R does not switch on within 5 min.
The seat ventilation also switches off if the vehicle is locked.
Model 118, 167, 177, 243, 247, 293
Model 213, 238, 257, 290
as of model year 2021
For convenience opening of the vehicle, depending on the configuration, the seat ventilation motors of the driver seat are first actuated in the "suction" direction of rotation (seat cooling). If circuit 15R is then not switched on within 5 minutes or the vehicle is locked again, the seat ventilation is switched off.
