General
Trailer maneuvering stabilization supports the driver river during reversing maneuvers with a trailer. The trailer maneuvering stabilization is operated using the multimedia system.
Function requirements
- Engine running or drive train operational.
- Parking Assist switched on.
- Trailer detected.
- Reverse gear engaged.
- Incline less than 15 %.
Function
Trailer maneuvering stabilization is taught-in by briefly driving the vehicle combination (vehicle and trailer) forward and, while doing so, angle measurement is reset to zero.
The drawbar length of the trailer is then calculated during cornering.
Determining articulation angle
Depending on the model series and model year, the actual articulation angle is determined as follows:
- Through a rotating magnetic ring of the turning angle sensor in the ball head of the trailer coupling,
- or through visual recognition by the reversing camera.
The nominal articulation angle of the vehicle combination (nominal lane) is entered by the driver manually using the multimedia system.
Trailer maneuvering stabilization controls the vehicle combination through targeted steering movements to match the nominal articulation angle entered by the driver.
Here, the speed of the vehicle combination is reduced or limited to 7 km/h (articulation angle ≤ 5°) or 5 km/h (articulation angle > 5°).
If the driver grasps the steering wheel, the vehicle combination is brake to a standstill.
Articulation angle protection
If the articulation angle is too large the articulation angle protection is initiated. The vehicle combination is automatically braked to a standstill, when the articulation angle between the towing vehicle and the trailer is too large.
Straight towing maneuver
When the straight towing maneuver function is activated using the multimedia system, the vehicle is regulated such that the trailer's current direction is maintained.
The trailer maneuvering stabilization automatically calculates the articulation angle and aligns the vehicle combination to match the trailer's current direction.
When reversing, the trailer swings out briefly before returning to the required line. The vehicle is aligned to be straight relative to the trailer. The trailer direction is maintained.

Display screen
The depiction in the central display is realized by the 360 degree camera system. The cameras record the required field of view. The driver is shown the trailer's current and specified articulation angle. The displays support the driver when maneuvering.
Various angles of vision (e.g. top view with view of trailer or top view with image from reversing camera) are shown.
