DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service Brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate Brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the Brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing Brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with Brake fluid Only pour Brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling Brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove cover over the Brake fluid expansion reservoir    
2 Clean area surrounding the cap of the Brake fluid expansion reservoir Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Unscrew cap from Brake fluid expansion reservoir and extract some Brake fluid IMPORTANT This prevents the Brake fluid expansion reservoir from overflowing when the Brake pistons are pushed back.  
4 Move rear axle Brake lining (9) into assembly position   AR42.10-P-1710-01FR 
    NOTES
Do not operate the service Brake while "Move to assembly position" is shown.
Otherwise the spindle in the Brake caliper (1) will be damaged.
IMPORTANT The hood must be closed.
 
5 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (at least 2 m)    
6 Remove rear wheel   AR40.10-P-1102A
7 Unhook electric line (13) from holders    
8 Unhook electric line (14) from holders Model 257
with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL)
 
9 Detach electrical plug (2) from coupling housing for brakepad wear sensor (5) When removing Brake caliper (1) on right.  
10 Remove bolt (4) and hang coupling housing for brakepad wear sensor (5) to one side When removing Brake caliper (1) on right.  
11 Release and detach electrical plug (8)    
12 Remove Brake hose (7)   AR42.10-P-0023FR 
13 Remove bolts (3) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Guide pin to Brake caliper support or bolt for guide pin to Brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1003-12W 
14 Remove Brake caliper (1) from Brake caliper support (11) INSTALLATION NOTES
The new Brake caliper (1) is shipped in prefilled condition and it may not be drained. Otherwise the Brake caliper (1) cannot be vented.
 
15 Remove electric parking Brake actuator motor (M76/1, M76/2) from Brake caliper (1) When replacing the Brake caliper (1).

INSPECT Check     
16 Check Brake caliper (1) and dust boot on Brake piston for leak tightness and damage If a problem arises

Replace Brake caliper (1).
INSTALLATION NOTES
The new Brake caliper (1) is shipped in prefilled condition and it may not be drained. Otherwise the Brake caliper (1) cannot be vented.
 
17 Check Brake caliper support (11) for damage If a problem arises

Replace Brake caliper support (11).

18 Check guide pin (12) for damage and ease of movement If a problem arises

Replace Brake caliper support (11).
 
      AR42.10-P-0221FR 
19 Remove brakepads (9), check for wear and condition    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If a problem arises

Replace brakepads (9).

20 Check Brake disk (10) for wear and condition If a problem arises

Replace Brake disks (10).
AR42.10-P-0120FR 
      AR42.10-P-0220FR 
21 Install in the reverse order    
22 Bleed Brake system   AR42.10-P-0010FR 
23 Operate Brake pedal several times until brakepads (9) make contact with Brake disks (10) IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the Brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
24 Check and correct Brake fluid level in expansion reservoir for Brake fluid    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210B
25 Carry out Brake test on the test stand    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.00-P-4290BA
