The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage to the right side of the vehicle.
The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating point on the C-pillar side wall reinforcement (2) and cut (area A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise, the C-pillar side wall (1) will be damaged and the strength will be impaired.
Dimensions:
a= approx. 25 mm
- Expose spot welds on the C-pillar side wall reinforcement (2) and cut off (areas B).
- Heat C-pillar side wall reinforcement (2) in the cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove C-pillar side wall reinforcement (2).
- Mark separating points on the C-pillar side wall (1) and disconnect (area C).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a = approx. 25 mm
- Expose spot welds on the C-pillar side wall (1) and cut off (areas D).
- Bend fixing lug (3) upward.
- Heat C-pillar side wall (1) in the cross-hatched area.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove C-pillar side wall (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges, onto connecting flanges that are no longer accessible after installing side roof paneling.
Do not coat bonding surface (area M) with zinc dust paint.
Otherwise adhesion problems can occur.
Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.
