General
One rear display is installed for the left and right rear seats respectively. The rear displays are the central operating units and display units for the Rear Seat Entertainment system. Depending on the equipment installed, control takes place via the head unit and/or the Rear Seat Entertainment system control unit. The rear displays are connected to the network architecture of the vehicle.
Location
The rear displays are each fastened to the rear of the relevant front seat using a holder.
Function requirements
- Circuit 30t ON
- In electric vehicles: Range maximization is not activated for the interior function area.
When the affected functions are switched on again, range maximization for the entire function area is canceled.
Function
The rear display (left or right) has the following functions:
- Displaying video images, graphical displays and control menus
- Receiving and implementing control signals via finger navigation
- Sending audio signals to radio frequency headphones via a wireless interface
- Providing connections for audio/video sources and headphones:
- USB (Universal Serial Bus) connector
- Headphone connection for cabled headphones
- HDMI connection (High Definition Multimedia Interface) (equipment-dependent)
- Reception of operation signals from the tablet PC or from a smartphone with corresponding Mercedes-Benz app (depending on equipment)
- Communication with head unit and/or with Rear Seat Entertainment System control unit (equipment-dependent)
Structure
The rear display (left or right) is equipped with the following components:
- Touch-sensitive display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080
- Connections:
- Headphone connection for cabled headphones or headsets
- USB connection
- HDMI connection (equipment-dependent)
- CAN interface (for safeguarding subnetwork operation)
- Wireless interface (for transferring audio signals to radio frequency headphones)
- Holder with adjustment option for incline angle (in the vertical plane)
On vehicles with Rear Seat Entertainment System Plus and reclining rear seat, the incline angle of the rear display is electrically adjusted on the front passenger side. Mechanical in all other cases.
- Camera above display (vehicle-specific)
The camera is not required for the Rear Seat Entertainment system of telematics unit version NTG 6 and NTG 7. However, it can be used for external applications (e.g. taking part in video conferences). Due to delivery bottlenecks, the camera in the rear display is not installed in all vehicles.
